A relaxing Saturday by the pool

As the temperature continues to soar, it is increasingly hard to find things to do while avoiding the 45 degree heat! There are only so many malls you can visit and days you can spend hiding in your home with the air con turned up before cabin fever sets in!

So, we decided to get out and about and treat ourselves to a spot of lunch and pool access in The H Hotel on Saturday afternoon. There we spent the day indulging in barbequed steak and lobster and alternating between the pool and shade to keep cool.

Here are a few pics from the day.

We had such a relaxing day, eating, swimming and catching up on celeb gossip! We promised ourselves we would do it again soon.

How much is enough?

Fruit Water

When it comes to water, I don’t know about you but if I don’t have it to hand I could go a full day without drinking any at all. Living in Dubai with temperatures reaching 50 degrees, I have become much more aware of my water intake. I have started bringing a 1.5 litre bottle of still water to work with me and as I am running around both indoors and out, I quite easily finish the bottle. However, on the weekends when I am indoors with the air con turned up, I often reach for a coffee or tea rather than a glass of water!

Water makes up about two-thirds of the weight of a healthy body. Having the appropriate water intake is very important as it helps our bodies to flush out waste and absorb nutrients into our blood. In order for our bodies to function properly, we need to replace the fluid which is lost when we breathe, sweat or go to the bathroom.

The European Food Safety Authority recommends that women need about 1.6 litres of fluid and men need about 2.0 litres of fluid per day. That’s about eight (200ml) glasses for a woman and 10 for a man.  However, this amount can vary due to how much you sweat, exercise, your weight etc.

Everything you drink will contribute to your intake but water and fruit juice are the healthiest.

So I have been searching for ideas to encourage me to drink more without it feeling like a chore. While trying to avoid fizzy drinks as they are full of sugar and artificial sweeteners. So when I came across this simple idea, I couldn’t wait to try it!

Basically, all it is is chopping up fresh fruit and adding it to chilled mineral water. It just adds a subtle fruit flavour but enough to encourage you to reach for that glass! I chose strawberry, kiwi, and orange and it turned out really well. I definately will be doing this on a regular basis!

Bridal Shower

Recently myself and a few friends decided to organise a hen party for a friend of ours who is getting married this July. I was so excited at the thought of picking a theme, decorating and creating a menu so I couldn’t wait to get started!

We decided to to hold a drinks and canapes party and then go to a champagne brunch the following day in Al Qasr hotel in the Madinat, Jumeirah.

We didn’t have much time so first thing first, I went online and had a good look at pinterest to get some inspiration for the colour scheme for our drinks party. We settled on yellow, cream and gold.

We took a trip to the Party Centre in Al Garhoud to pick up a few decorations and balloons. This place is amazing with decorations for every occasion so we had a ball running around choosing props and decorations.

We picked up some yellow puff balls, cream and gold bunting, vanilla cream helium balloons, gold table confetti, and engagement ring charms.

We decided to keep the food simple, so we prepared a selection of canapes and finger food. We made Bruschetta, baked baby potatoes with creme fraiche and chives, smoked salmon and brown bread, hummous, brie and crackers, mixed salad,  and a caprese salad. They all went down a treat!

The night was a great success and I am already looking for the next event to organise! I thoroughly enjoyed browsing themes, shopping for props and preparing the canapes. I hope our friend enjoyed it as much as we did!

About Me

GetAttachment

Freya and Milly is a lifestyle blog, where I share insights into my life, the things I love, the places I go and the people that inspire me.

Originally from Ireland, I have been living and working in Dubai for the past two years with my husband Andrew. We are gearing up for a move to Abu Dhabi in August which I’m hoping will give me a bit more free time to indulge my artistic side and blog about it along the way. I have a love for cooking, baking, fashion and anything vintage. My guilty pleasure is vintage china and I’m always on the hunt for one of a kind interesting pieces for my home. I love to travel and try to collect one off pieces from everywhere I visit.

And so with a lot of courage and a little trepidation, I have set up this blog! I hope you enjoy it, please like or comment with questions or feedback .

Thanks for reading!
